Introduction

The GRE is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for many graduate schools primarily in the United States and Canada. It measures your analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning abilities. Developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at Princeton University, it is a crucial part of the application process for many graduate programs.

The GRE consists of three main parts: Analytical Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. The total testing time is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, including short breaks. The GRE also permits note-taking during the exam.

It is available in two formats: computer-based (CBT) and paper-based (PBT). The CBT format is the more common of the two and is available at testing centers worldwide.

Score validity is 5 years.

Types of GRE:

There are two main types of the GRE: the General Test and the Subject Tests.

The General Test is available globally in both computer-based and paper-based formats, though the computer-based format is more prevalent. Subject Tests are available in fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. These are paper-based tests available in select locations. We recommend checking with the specific institutions or programs you are applying to determine if they require a GRE Subject Test.
