Introduction

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses critical reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning skills that are necessary for academic success in college. The test is developed and administered by the College Board, and it helps colleges evaluate the academic preparedness of applicants.

The SAT consists of two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math. There is also an optional Essay section. The total testing time is about 3 hours for the main sections, with an additional 50 minutes for the Essay. Note-taking is permitted during the test.

The SAT is primarily a paper-based test, though a computer-based version is being phased in at international locations.

Score validity is 5 years.

Types of SAT:

The SAT offers a few variations, including SAT Subject Tests, which are additional standardized tests on specific subjects. These are offered to showcase the student's strengths and interests in particular academic areas. However, as of 2021, the College Board has discontinued SAT Subject Tests in the United States.

It's advisable to check with the colleges you are interested in to determine their specific SAT requirements and whether the optional Essay or any Subject Tests are recommended.
